The Turkish product and interior designer Defne Koz lives and works between Milan and Chicago. Her work for VitrA has brought the heritage of Turkish ceramic tiles into the 21st century. Inspired by the traditional motifs and colors of Turkish tile designs, she developed a highly stylized version of these patterns for a range called İznik, after the Turkish city that was the center for the faïence pottery-making industry in the 17th century. The 4D tile, which perfectly demonstrates VitrA’s objective of finding inspiration in the past, gained the company a Red Dot Design Award in 2006.
